Much like the phrase, don’t eat yellow snow, common sense in business stands the test of time.
I’ve worked for many companies and bosses over the years. None were perfect. All were valuable.
We asked our advisory board for the best common sense advice they’ve ever been given, and narrowed it down to three.
Think of these as your Yellow Snow Jolts.
Get Ahead Of It.
Whether you think the issue is going to get worse or not, doesn’t matter. Get ahead of it anyway. Deliver the news. Come up with a solution. Raise your hand. Pick up the phone. Get there first. So much conflict in business starts with a bark because someone didn’t get ahead of it, and then it becomes a bite.
Everything Communicates.
Whether you like it or not, everything you say and do communicates something about you. It doesn’t mean you can’t be yourself. Just use your noggin’. The next time you’re busting to roll your eyes because Dave in Finance is rattling on about the need to improve margins, give yourself a nudge.
The Way You Make Others Feel Is Your Brand.
It sounds like something you might read on a motivational poster, under the headline, “Leadership”. But we still haven’t found a better way of summing up the power of emotional intelligence, and the unseen impact we have on those around us.
Three simple Jolts to keep in your bag of tools.
Love and fresh snow, without all the yellow bits,
The Jolt.
PS if you think someone would benefit from this or the Jolt overall, we’d really appreciate a share.
